NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS–The Oklahoma Warriors used rapid-fire scoring to nab a 4-1 win over the Lone Star Brahmas at NYTEX Sports Centre on Friday.
The Warriors had not won a game in ‘Brahmaland’ since the move to Oklahoma City. Their last win came on November 26, 2021, while the two teams were still in-state foes.
Oklahoma used two goals in the span of 17 seconds to open the scoring. Adam Severson, on a setup from Max Dronen and Jaxon Grosdidier, received the puck in the middle of the slot and fired a snipe to the top-left corner of the net. On the ensuing possession, Dominic Elliott sprung Zach Homer on a long breakaway pass. Homer ripped a wrist shot top-right for an instant 2-0 lead with 10:04 remaining in the first period.
After the scoring calmed down, it picked back up late in the second. Kaden Nelson scored a 5-on-3 goal on a drive to the net, then William Ahlrik followed up with a deflection goal on a separate power play. Those two goals on the man advantage came 1:58 apart.
Elliott picked up an assist on three of those four goals. Dronen recorded two assists. In his first game back from injury, Grosdidier had a helper as well.
Despite recording just one shot on goal in the third period, the Warriors’ defensive effort and penalty kill held strong and limited the Brahmas to one goal en route to victory. Lone Star entered the contest with the best home-ice advantage in the North American Hockey League at 15-1.
Daniel Duris made 24 saves on 25 shots to earn his 12th win of the season.
The Warriors’ third consecutive win puts them on their first winning streak of the season. Oklahoma holds the fifth position in the south division standings. The club looks to sweep the four-game series against the Brahmas on Saturday. Puck drop is at 7:30 from North Richland Hills.
