Warriors Add Olivier Chessler From Green Bay

Oct 19, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY–The Oklahoma Warriors have acquired defenseman Olivier Chessler from the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League.

Chessler joined the Warriors on Thursday and is on the active roster ahead of Oklahoma’s road trip to Amarillo.

“Ollie is a high-character kid who works hard and competes,” head coach Garrett Roth said. “He has great poise with the puck, good puck movement, and a high compete level on the defensive end.”

The 19-year-old defenseman spent his rookie season with the Gamblers, where he played 47 games at the top level of amateur junior hockey. Chessler began this season in Green Bay and recorded four games played before Oklahoma acquired him.

Roth used a second-round pick in the 2023 NAHL Draft to select Chessler, who is committed to Union College at the NCAA Division I level. With Chessler joining the team, six out of the Warriors’ first seven selections are currently on the roster. Roth was pleased with what he saw in his first practice with the group.

“As practice went on, he grew,” Roth said. “He got more and more confident with the puck and with what we are trying to accomplish in our systems. He has a good hockey IQ and understands our structure.”

Chessler, a Watertown, Mass. native, is the third player in the last two weeks to join the Warriors from the USHL. Riley Brueck (Sioux City) and Dominic Elliott (Cedar Rapids) made their season debuts last weekend.

The Oklahoma Warriors are home next against the Amarillo Wranglers for a three-game series on Friday, October 27, Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. all three nights at Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City. Fans can purchase tickets at www.okwarriors.com/tickets and watch the team live on www.nahltv.com.
