OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oklahoma Warriors, proud members of the North American Hockey League, defeated the New Mexico Ice Wolves 3-2 on Friday night.
Adam Bauer wired home a one-timer from Olivier Laverdière with 16:05 remaining for the lone goal in the opening frame, making it 1-0. Oklahoma outshot New Mexico 12-8 through the first 20 minutes.
Early in the period, the Oklahoma shorthanded unit came up big, going 2/2 on the penalty kill. Nolan Beddow doubled the Warriors’ lead with 5:50 remaining in the middle period, on a flurry of chaos assisted by Denny Oh, making it 2-0. Nearly two minutes later, Charles Velner put the Wolves on the board, set up by Porter Bayer, to make it 2-1 with 3:54 remaining. New Mexico came out much stronger, outshooting Oklahoma 15-9 in the second period.
Similar to the second period, New Mexico came out hot with Caleb Debruyne evening the score, 2-2, assisted by Connor Boulay with 16:18 to go in the final frame. Jackson Hone rifled a shot from the top of the right circle, set up by Benjamin Bertrand, closing out the scoring 3-2 with 14:50 remaining. New Mexico outshot Oklahoma 16-6 in the third.
Jakub Hanlan came up big for the Warriors, making late-game saves and stopping 37-of-39 shots faced. Ryan Galaski stopped 24-of-27 in the Ice Wolves effort.
