Warriors End First Half on High-Scoring Defeat

Dec 17, 2023

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The Oklahoma Warriors’ four-goal output was not enough in a 7-4 loss to the New Mexico Ice Wolves at Outpost Ice Arenas on Saturday.

Both teams held multiple leads in the game, which also featured ties of 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, and 4-4. New Mexico scored three unanswered goals, all in the third period, to pull away for the win.

Four different Warriors scored a goal: Kaden Nelson, Zach Homer, Landon Fleming, and Nathan Rickey. Nelson’s game-opening goal puts him at 15 over the first 29 games, tied for eighth-most in the North American Hockey League. After leaving Friday’s game due to injury, Ollie Chessler came back and recorded two assists, the most of any Warrior.

The four goals scored was a welcome change after Oklahoma had lacked the finishing touch the previous three games. However, it is the first time the team has scored four times in a loss. The Warriors dressed only ten forwards and six defensemen for the contest.

With the holiday break here, the team looks to gain some energy back with a week off. Oklahoma travels to Shreveport for a pair of games on Friday, December 29 and Saturday, December 30.

The Oklahoma Warriors are home against the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday, January 5 and Saturday, January 6. Puck drop is at 7:15 p.m. at Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City. Fans can purchase tickets at www.okwarriors.com/tickets and watch the team live on www.nahltv.com.
