Warriors Fall in Shootout to Conclude Series

Oct 31, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY–The Oklahoma Warriors lost to the Amarillo Wranglers 3-2 in a shootout at Blazers Ice Centre on Sunday.

Bryce Howard and Landon Fleming scored to build a 2-0 Warriors lead. Howard, who celebrated his 20th birthday with a goal, had not scored on home ice until that point. Fleming’s goal was his second of the season and first since home opening weekend.

Amarillo used a pair of power play goals to get even. After nothing in the overtime period, the Wranglers scored the only two goals of the shootout to clinch the extra point.

The series concluded on an all-too-familiar note: Amarillo finding a way to win beyond regulation. The Wranglers defeated the Warriors four times in the five-game mini-series. In all four such victories, the game had been tied with under a minute to play. Oklahoma’s win came by a 5-2 score on Saturday, the only lopsided game of the series.

Oklahoma enters their lone bye week of the first half on that note. Their 22 points is good for third place in the south division. The Warriors take the ice next in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 10 and 11.

The Oklahoma Warriors are home against the Corpus Christi on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18. The team will wear specialty jerseys to benefit the Toby Keith Foundation and OK Kids Korral. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m. at Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City.
