OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oklahoma Warriors, proud members of the North American Hockey League, defeated the New Mexico Ice Wolves 6-1 on Saturday night.
For the second consecutive game, Adam Bauer opened the scoring, set up by Olivier Laverdière, making it 1-0 at the 14:03 mark for the lone goal of the period. Continuing the trend from the final two periods of Friday’s contest, New Mexico outshot Oklahoma 17-6 through the first 20.
The Warriors came out stronger in the middle period, with Nate Pearce firing home a shot from the point with Adam Bauer collecting the helper at the 14:13 mark, making it 2-0 on the man advantage. Luke VanderRoest extended the lead to 3-0, burying a rebound right on the doorstep created by Nolan Beddow and Carson Steinhoff at the 10:35 mark, rounding out the middle frame scoring. Oklahoma led the shot department 12-8.
Avenir Belous capitalized on a shorthanded breakaway at the 7:25 mark, catching the head-man feed from Jaxson Kaebel, putting the Warriors ahead 4-0. Not much longer after, Olivier Laverdière redirected a ripper from Carson Steinhoff, putting the Warriors ahead 5-0. Cooper Bayer broke the goose egg, off an assist from Connor Boulay at 1:58, making it 5-1. Jackson Hone wired home a one-time blast with 43-seconds left in the game, for the Warriors’ second power-play tally to round out the scoring 6-1.
Jakub Hanlan stopped 33-of-34 shots faced in the Warriors’ win, and William Dimodica stopped 25-of-31 in the Ice Wolves effort. Oklahoma went 2-for-7 on the man advantage and 7-of-7 on the penalty kill.
